We’re grateful to share some feel-good news from right here in Ocean County. My Guy Plumbing selected A Need We Feed as the winner of their monthly $500 Charity Giveaway, thanks to a surge of community votes. In a short video announcement, owner Ryan Matthews presented the check to our president Mark Blackwell and director of development Amanda Brunas, applauding the work our volunteers do each week.
How this gift helps—immediately
Every $8 we receive funds one hot, restaurant-prepared meal for a neighbor in need. This $500 donation will be used to purchase meals from local restaurants and support our weekly deliveries to veterans, homebound seniors, families, and individuals experiencing homelessness in Ocean County.
- We currently deliver about 250 meals each week.
- Meals are picked up from partner restaurants, brought to the Toms River Elks Lodge for packing and route prep, and delivered to doorsteps by volunteers the same afternoon.
This model nourishes our clients and also supports local small businesses—a double impact that keeps dollars in our community.
A quick look at our roots
As Mark shared in the video, A Need We Feed began as a grassroots response after Superstorm Sandy in 2012, when volunteers came together to feed first responders and storm-impacted families. What started as holiday meal distributions has grown into a year-round, weekly meal program powered by local restaurants and volunteers.
Thank you, My Guy Plumbing—and everyone who voted
We’re honored by My Guy Plumbing’s generosity and the outpouring of votes that made this gift possible. Community partners like this keep our mission moving.
